Briefs on Social and Emotional Learning (SEL)
These briefs, published by the National Center and the Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning (CASEL), aim to guide SS/HS grantees as they implement SEL programs in their schools and communities to improve academic outcomes and the overall success of students. These briefs are accompanied by teleconferences for SS/HS grantees where SEL experts share their knowledge on SEL research and program implementation.

Youth Violence Prevention Monograph
The Youth Violence Prevention (YVP) program was created in 1999 to support community-based organizations as they analyzed risk and protective factors of youth violence so that they could address the issue at early stages by choosing appropriate interventions. This monograph provides a description of the initiative along with its key elements and also highlights the experiences of various YVP communities.
Promoting Children’s Mental Health: The SAMHSA/CMHS Prevention and Early Intervention Grant Program
In 2001, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration’s (SAMHSA) Center for Mental Health Services (CMHS) created the Prevention and Early Intervention grant program to address the need to expand children’s mental health promotion and prevention services. Between 2001 and 2006, this grant program funded 23 community-based efforts to provide promotion, prevention, and early intervention programs targeting children at risk for developing emotional or behavioral disorders. This monograph explores goals and outcomes of the program while featuring lessons learned from the initiative and highlighting grantee accomplishments.
Developing Safe Schools Partnerships
The Developing Safe Schools Partnerships series contains fact sheets that are intended for people who work collaboratively to develop safe schools. Drawing on the experience of the Safe Schools/Healthy Students initiative, the fact sheets outline common interests shared by various systems such as (e.g., juvenile justice, law enforcement, schools, and mental health) and how partnerships created and maintained between these systems can help accomplish the goals to create safer schools.
