Out of School and Off Track: The Overuse of Suspensions in American Middle and High Schools

This report reviews the national statistics on school suspensions and the negative academic and social implications it has for students who attend schools with high suspension rates. These findings also highlight civil rights concerns related to the high frequency of suspensions for students of color. Recommendations for parents, child advocates, policymakers, and the media are included to help them advocate for safer learning environments that do not rely on the frequent suspension of students.
