Tuesday, December 6, 2005. 5:30 - 7:00 p.m. EST
Wednesday, December 7, 2005. 3:30 - 5:00 p.m. EST

During this 90-minute telephone conference, Laura Eskridge, Ph.D. (Tues) and Lou Ann Todd Mock, Ph.D., L.S.S.P. (Wed) from the DePelchin Children’s Center will talk about how school based staff can address issues facing students displaced by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita and answer the questions:

  • How does traumatic experience interact with pre-existing mental health issues to influence students’ behavior?
  • How can school staff understand and address their own needs for self care resulting from work with traumatized students?
  • How can schools help to prevent and de-escalate conflict between displaced students and others?

Grantees will have the opportunity to ask questions during the presentation, and participate in a broad discussion on the needs and issues of displaced students and schools serving them.
