This work updates the 1994 book Reducing Risks for Mental Disorders and contains information on the status of research on programs in mental health and substance abuse prevention for children, youth, and young adults as well as suggestions for improving these programs. It also includes prevention methods that have emerged from a variety of settings such as programs for selected at risk populations, school based interventions, interventions in primary care settings, and community services designed to address a broad array of mental health needs and populations.
