Project Summary : The Safe Schools/Healthy Students Initiative seeks to impact positively youth in Cleveland City and Bradley County through coordinated interventions through a working collaboration of more than 20 public and private agencies and faith-based organizations. The focus of the Initiative is to provide safe, nurturing drug-free learning environments in order to prepare students and their families with the skills and knowledge needed to live healthy and productive lives. The Initiative will conduct an All Hazards Safe School Plan listing vulnerability and threat assessments of all the school campuses. Based on the extensive observations and discussions with local emergency preparedness staff, the SS/HS staff will make suggestions to the school districts for improved safety measures. Mental health services will be provided in the pre-K 12 school setting through SS/HS mental health counselors and behavioral specialists. Training on evidence-based intervention curricula will be conducted and implemented in both regular and after-school settings. SS/HS partners meet in regular monthly meetings to discuss progress toward achieving the goals and objectives listed in the Logic Model and to plan for sustainability of program activities initiated through the SS/HS Initiative.
