Addressing the Out of School Suspension Crisis: A Policy Guide for School Board Members

This guide examines out-of-school suspension rates of students in the United States and the consequences out-of-school suspension  has on students. It examines the racial and gender gaps that come with suspension as well as the inequity in suspension among students with special needs and learning disabilities. Utilizing multiple sources of research, this guide provides ways that school boards can prevent the use of suspension and ways to improve collaboration among students, teachers, administrators and the community to develop a comprehensive, evidence-based solution to these issues.
