The Center serves grantees of the Safe Schools Health Students program funded by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) and the U.S. Departments of Education and Justice. This program and its grantees seek to increase the capacity of schools and communities to meet the mental health of students and other community members, form and expand coalitions to prevent youth violence, suicide, substance abuse and other mental health and behavioral problems, and prevent violence in schools.

Safe Schools/Health Students (SS/HS) Program

The Safe Schools/Healthy Students (SS/HS) Program helps school districts, in partnership with mental health providers and juvenile justice agencies, implement projects that address the following six elements:

  1. a safe school environment,
  2. violence, alcohol, and drug abuse prevention and early intervention programs,
  3. mental health promotion and treatment/intervention services,
  4. early childhood psychosocial and emotional development services,
  5. educational reform, and
  6. safe school policies.
