Carol Bershad

Ms. Bershad has extensive experience designing and writing educational materials, and providing technical assistance and training. She has co-developed simulation board games about organizational change, professional development, and leadership and has conducted facilitator institutes and workshops for school districts, universities, and regional educational centers around the U.S. In addition, she has created online courses and lessons for science educators, as well as online instruction for middle school coordinators. Ms. Bershad has developed five Teenage Health Teaching Modules (THTM) for EDC: Living with Feelings and Handling Stress, Growing into Healthy Sexuality, Respecting Healthy Sexuality, Building Foundations: Developing Skills for Life, and Taking Action to Stop Bullying: A Literacy-Based Approach. She also provides staff and training of trainers for Aggressors, Victims, and Bystanders and other THTM modules. Ms. Bershad worked on the EDC Botswana HIV and AIDS Awareness curriculum. Most recently she has co-authored Realizing the Promise of the Whole-School Approach to Children’s Mental Health, a guide for elementary and middle schools. She also co-authored the EDC book Supported Literacy for Adolescents published by Jossey-Bass. Before coming to EDC, Ms. Bershad directed a Kellogg-foundation funded health education program and co-authored two children’s books and teacher’s guides on nutrition and fitness and another on self-directed behavior change for adolescents. She developed the 9th grade Sexuality and Health curriculum for the Newton Public Schools and provided staff training. Ms. Bershad also taught biology at the high-school level. Ms. Bershad holds A.B. and M.S. degrees in biology from the University of Michigan.
